ADAPTING TOGETHER.
FOR A BETTER US.

In Berkeley Heights, Summit and around the world, 2020 was a test of our resilience and strength. But throughout it, the Summit Area YMCA continued advancing our cause-driven mission. We transformed spaces for virtual learning, to offer socially distanced and supervised environments where kids can engage in their online school curriculum and enjoy safe social interactions with their peers. We operated as a Y without walls, bringing our fitness center and group exercise classes outdoors and into homes, for adults to stay active, get healthy and build strength. We partnered with local organizations to expand our food insecurity programs, supported our community and provided thousands of meals to those in need.

AREAS OF FOCUS

Our three areas of focus are what we at the Y dedicate ourselves to every day. We believe that by nurturing these three areas, we can support our local communities and help every individual discover and reach their potential, become healthier and encourage behaviors and actions that improve their lives.
Together with the Y, as a community, we are stronger.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

At the Y, we give young people a safe place to belong, to build confidence and to learn positive behaviors from strong role models who exemplify the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.
Whether it be child care, early education, youth swim and sports, camp or college preparation, our programs and staff provide the support and opportunities needed to help our youth learn, grow and thrive.

HEALTHY LIVING

Our mission, centered on the balance of spirit, mind and body, provides programs and resources that encourage healthy living. We try to make it easy for you to work out by having knowledgeable staff who care, resources and equipment that motivates healthy living, and a welcoming, supportive community who encourage your well-being.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

As an organization dedicated to serving and strengthening our community, we inspire members of the community to make a difference in the lives of others with small and large acts of kindness. Your support helps others who are less fortunate to access our
life-changing opportunities.

SUMMIT AREA YMCA
BERKELEY HEIGHTS YMCA | SUMMIT YMCA | THE LEARNING CIRCLE YMCA

In 1886, we were founded as the Young Men's Christian Association, but today, we are The Y. An association that values, and is made stronger by, its diverse people. We stand for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility — For a better us. We are committed to creating equal opportunity for all regardless of gender, age, disability, income, ethnicity, sexual orientation or religious affiliation. We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive culture in which our four core values — responsibility, honesty, caring and respect — are integral to everyday operations.

Each year, as one of the area’s leading 501(c)3 charitable organizations, the Summit Area YMCA serves more than 15,000 individuals with our free and fee-based programs and services in an area spanning the New Jersey communities of Berkeley Heights, Gillette, Millburn, New Providence, Short Hills, Springfield, Stirling and Summit. Our history is rooted in working side-by-side with our neighbors to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. Through the generosity of our members, donors, and partners, we are able to offer financial assistance for our programs and services to those in need
